Submersible sump, drainage and sewage pumps
A submersible pump sits in the pit and pushes water out before it floods. Waternex stocks sump and drainage pumps for stormwater, seepage and flooded basements, and cutter and grinder pumps for raw sewage and effluent, in 240V and 415V. Prices start at $308, and every pump is chosen for Australian pits and conditions.
Types of submersible pumps we stock

Sump and drainage pumps
For stormwater pits, basements, seepage, puddles and site dewatering. The Hyjet HDS25 is a 250W stainless automatic pump with a float switch for small pits, at up to 150 litres a minute. The Hyjet HV180 vortex pump handles dirty water with small solids, and the DB100 double channel pumps move up to 600 litres a minute for big pits and flood duty.
Sewage cutter pumps
Cutter pumps slice through solids, so they handle raw sewage from toilets, laundries and kitchens through a standard discharge line. Our REEFE RIC and RCE cutter pumps run on 240V with automatic float options, and the Aline SABRE ALC750 range comes in 240V and 415V.
Sewage grinder pumps
Grinder pumps shred solids into a fine slurry and push it through small pressure lines over long runs and high lifts. The Aline SABRE ALG1500 delivers up to 30 metres of head and 240 litres a minute on 240V, with ALG2200 and ALG3700 415V models for bigger jobs.
How to choose the right submersible pump
- What goes in the pit: clean or dirty water needs a drainage or vortex pump. Toilet waste needs a cutter or grinder.
- Head and run: long or high runs through small pipe need a grinder. Short runs suit a cutter or drainage pump.
- Automatic or manual: automatic pumps have a float switch fitted. Manual pumps need a separate float or controller.
- Power: most home pumps are 240V. Larger grinders and commercial pumps need 415V three phase.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best sump pump for a pit or basement?
For a small residential pit, an automatic stainless drainage pump with a float switch, such as the Hyjet HDS25, is the simplest choice. For big pits, flooding or dirty water with solids, step up to a vortex or double channel pump that moves up to 600 litres a minute.
What is the difference between a cutter pump and a grinder pump?
A cutter pump slices solids and suits sewage on shorter, lower runs through standard pipe. A grinder pump shreds solids into a slurry and pushes it through small pressure lines over long runs and higher heads, up to about 30 metres on the Aline SABRE ALG1500.
Can a sump pump handle sewage?
No. A sump or drainage pump is for water and small solids only. Toilet waste needs a sewage cutter or grinder pump, ideally in a packaged pump station with an alarm.
Do submersible pumps need 3 phase power?
Most home sump, drainage and sewage pumps run on 240V single phase. Larger grinder pumps and commercial units, such as the Aline SABRE ALG2200 and ALG3700, need 415V three phase.
How much does a submersible sump or sewage pump cost?
Our drainage and sump pumps start at $308, sewage cutter pumps from about $1,300, and grinder pumps from about $2,100. Installation by a licensed plumber and electrician is extra.
