A solar pump moves water using energy from solar panels instead of mains power or fuel, which makes it ideal for bores, tanks, dams and troughs that sit a long way from the grid. Types of solar pump we stock
Solar bore pumps (submersible)
Solar bore pumps drop down inside the bore casing and push water up to the surface. They are the most common choice for stock water, house supply and tank filling on off grid properties. We carry 2 inch, 3 inch and 4 inch submersibles with brushless DC motors, in screw (helical rotor) and centrifugal designs, so there is an option for shallow low yield bores as well as deep or high flow ones.
Solar surface and pressure pumps
Surface pumps sit above the water and draw from a tank, dam or river. They suit pressure and transfer duties around the property, such as feeding troughs, gravity tanks or a garden line, where the water source is close to the surface.
Solar pool pumps
Solar pool pumps run your pool circulation straight off the sun, cutting the running cost of keeping a pool clean and moving during the day.
Solar fountain, pond and aeration pumps

AC/DC hybrid solar pumps
Many of our bore pump packages use an intelligent AC/DC MPPT controller. On a clear day they run on solar alone, and when you need water on a cloudy day or after dark they fall back automatically to mains power or a generator. That flexibility is why hybrid solar pumps are popular for house supply, where a dry tap is not an option.
How to choose the right solar pump
Three numbers decide which pump you need: how deep the water sits (your total head), how much water you want per day, and the diameter of your bore. As a rough guide, shallower bores and lighter stock duties suit pumps up to about 400W, most farm and stock bores land in the 500W to 1000W range, and deep or high flow duties call for larger pumps. Frequently asked questions about solar pumps
Do solar pumps work on cloudy days?
Standard solar pumps slow down or stop in heavy cloud because they rely on live sunlight. AC/DC hybrid models solve this by switching automatically to mains power or a generator when solar output drops, so supply stays constant.
Do I need batteries?
Most bore and surface solar pumps do not use batteries. They pump while the sun is up and you store the water in a tank rather than storing power. Some small fountain kits include a battery so they keep running into the evening.
What size solar panel array do I need?
