Kwikflo KGT1000 1000L Grease Arrestor features and specifications

Proven Grease Separation for Commercial Kitchens

Commercial kitchens push a constant load of fats, oils and grease into their drainage. Left untreated, that material cools and hardens in the sewer line, which is why water authorities require food businesses to install a grease arrestor as a pre-treatment stage.

The KGT1000 gives cafés, restaurants and institutional kitchens a 1000L holding volume where that separation happens under gravity, before the wastewater is discharged to sewer.

Internal Pipework That Protects the Settled Layers

Contaminated water arrives through the inlet pipe and is directed by the internal pipework down to the base of the tank.

Feeding the flow low into the tank avoids stirring up sludge and grease that has already separated. Without this, incoming water would mix the tank contents and carry separated material back toward the outlet.

Inside the tank, the wastewater slows and separates into three layers. Sludge and heavier solids settle into the base of the unit, grease is trapped and floats to the surface, and the treated liquid in the middle is discharged from the grease arrestor to sewer.

Above Ground or Below Ground Installation

The KGT1000 is rated for both above ground and below ground installation, so it can sit in a plant room, service yard, or be buried under a trafficable area with the appropriate lid.

For sites with higher flows than a single 1000L unit can handle, the Kwikflo range supports dual parallel and dual inline configurations, and steps up through 1500L poly to 2000L, 3000L, 4000L and 5000L fibre-reinforced polymer models.

Straightforward Servicing Access

A 600mm square manhole gives access for pump-out and inspection. Grease arrestors need regular pump-out by a licensed liquid waste contractor, at a frequency set by the local water authority based on the size of the unit and the kitchen's output.

How It Works

Contaminated water arrives through the inlet pipe.

The internal pipework directs that flow to the base of the tank, which avoids mixing and re-suspending sludge and grease that has already settled or risen.

Sludge and solids settle in the base of the unit.

Grease is trapped and floats to the surface.

Treated liquid is discharged from the grease arrestor to sewer.

Installation Information

The KGT1000 can be installed above ground or below ground. Inlet plumbing is to be installed by a licensed plumber, and risers are available on request where the tank sits deeper below finished surface level.

Important installation considerations include:

  • The water level and outlet pipe must sit 150mm below the inlet.
  • The inlet connections are on one end of the tank and the outlet connections on the opposite end.
  • The lid must be selected to match the installation type and the traffic load passing over it.
  • Below ground installations require a load-rated cover, with Class B and Class D options available.
  • Above ground installations can use the poly or fibreglass 600x600 lid, or the 200mm poly inspection port lid.
  • Sites with flows beyond a single 1000L unit may require a dual parallel or dual inline arrangement.
  • Sizing, trade waste approval and pump-out frequency are set by the local water authority.
  • Final sizing and installation should be approved by the relevant hydraulic consultant, engineer, licensed plumber and local authority.
