The Kwikflo KGT1500 Grease Arrestor is a 1500L polyethylene grease trap built to remove fats, oils, grease and suspended solids from commercial kitchen wastewater before it reaches the sewer. The extra 500L over the 1000L model suits busier kitchens and longer service periods between pump-outs. It is rated for above ground and below ground installation and is an approved listed pre-treatment product for food businesses, manufactured by Aline Pumps.
Highlights
- Removes fats, oils, grease and suspended solids from trade waste
- 1500L polyethylene tank, model KGT1500
- Suitable for both above ground and below ground installation
- Approved listed pre-treatment for food businesses under MPT/AGA/1500L
- Internal pipework directs flow to the base of the tank to avoid re-suspending settled sludge
- 600mm square manhole for access and servicing
- Longer interval between pump-outs than a 1000L unit at the same kitchen load
- Risers available on request for deeper below-ground installs
- Handles raw sewage, trade waste, effluent and stormwater
- 2925mm x 710mm footprint, same width and depth as the 1000L model
- Can be configured in dual inline arrangements for higher flows

More Capacity for Busier Kitchens
Commercial kitchens push a constant load of fats, oils and grease into their drainage. Left untreated, that material cools and hardens in the sewer line, which is why water authorities require food businesses to install a grease arrestor as a pre-treatment stage.
The KGT1500 holds 1500L, giving a longer retention time and more room for accumulated grease and sludge than a 1000L unit at the same kitchen load. For sites where the local water authority has set a pump-out frequency that a smaller tank cannot meet comfortably, the extra volume is usually the deciding factor.
It shares the 710mm width and 1485mm depth of the 1000L model and gains its capacity in length, at 2925mm, which often makes it a straight swap where width is constrained.
Internal Pipework That Protects the Settled Layers
Contaminated water arrives through the inlet pipe and is directed by the internal pipework down to the base of the tank.
Feeding the flow low into the tank avoids stirring up sludge and grease that has already separated. Without this, incoming water would mix the tank contents and carry separated material back toward the outlet.
Inside the tank, the wastewater slows and separates into three layers. Sludge and heavier solids settle into the base of the unit, grease is trapped and floats to the surface, and the treated liquid in the middle is discharged from the grease arrestor to sewer.
Above Ground or Below Ground Installation
The KGT1500 is rated for both above ground and below ground installation, so it can sit in a plant room, service yard, or be buried under a trafficable area with the appropriate lid.
Where a single 1500L unit is not enough, the Kwikflo range supports dual inline and dual parallel configurations, and steps up to fibre-reinforced polymer models at 2000L and above.
Straightforward Servicing Access
A 600mm square manhole gives access for pump-out and inspection. Grease arrestors need regular pump-out by a licensed liquid waste contractor, at a frequency set by the local water authority based on the size of the unit and the kitchen's output.

How It Works
Contaminated water arrives through the inlet pipe.
The internal pipework directs that flow to the base of the tank, which avoids mixing and re-suspending sludge and grease that has already settled or risen.
Sludge and solids settle in the base of the unit.
Grease is trapped and floats to the surface.
Treated liquid is discharged from the grease arrestor to sewer.
Installation Information
The KGT1500 can be installed above ground or below ground. Inlet plumbing is to be installed by a licensed plumber, and risers are available on request where the tank sits deeper below finished surface level.
Important installation considerations include:
- The water level and outlet pipe must sit 150mm below the inlet.
- The inlet connections are on one end of the tank and the outlet connections on the opposite end.
- The lid must be selected to match the installation type and the traffic load passing over it.
- Allow for the 2925mm length when planning the excavation or plant room location.
- Sites with flows beyond a single 1500L unit may require a dual parallel or dual inline arrangement.
- Sizing, trade waste approval and pump-out frequency are set by the local water authority.
- Final sizing and installation should be approved by the relevant hydraulic consultant, engineer, licensed plumber and local authority.
