Which load class does your site need?
Australian access covers are rated to AS 3996, which sets the load each class must carry. The right class depends on what can drive over the pit, not just on what usually does. If a delivery truck or a forklift could reach it, rate it for that.

Choosing a cover for a pump station
- Opening size: the clear opening must be large enough to lift the pumps out. Dual stations and guide rail systems often need 600 x 900 mm or larger.
- Solid or grate: sewer stations need a solid, sealed cover. Grates are for stormwater pits that collect surface water.
- Infill lids: where the station sits in pavers or concrete, an infill lid lets the surface finish continue over the top.
- Frame and bedding: a Class D cover is only as strong as the frame and concrete surround it sits in, so follow the installation detail on the drawings.
Covers supplied with a pump station
When we supply a commercial or mine site pump station we can include the right cover in the same package, so the lid matches the tank or pit opening. See commercial building sewer pump stations, mine site sewer pump stations and the full commercial and project supply range.
