How project supply works

  1. Send the jobHydraulic drawings, a duty point, or the pit depth, discharge run and power available.
  2. We size itPump selection to your duty, storage, controls, covers and fittings, checked by our engineering team.
  3. Clear written quoteUsually within 24 to 48 hours, listing exactly what is and is not included.
  4. Supplied to siteFast dispatch once paid, delivered to site anywhere in Australia, freight quoted per project.

Why commercial sewer pump stations are different

A house pump station protects one family. A commercial station protects every unit, tenancy and trade in the building, so it is designed around redundancy and the hydraulic design rather than a standard tank size. In practice that means two pumps in duty and standby, a controller that alternates them and raises an alarm on failure, enough emergency storage to ride out a fault, and a lid rated for whatever drives over it.

How we size a commercial sewer pump station

  1. Design flow: taken from the hydraulic consultant's design, or worked out from the fixture loading and number of dwellings served.
  2. Total head: the static lift from the pump off level to the highest point of the rising main, plus friction loss along the main, plus any discharge pressure required at the connection.
  3. Pump selection: each pump must deliver the design flow at that head on its own, so the station still works with one pump out of service.
  4. Velocity check: the rising main velocity needs to stay high enough to keep solids moving, generally around 0.7 to 0.8 metres per second or more, without excessive friction.
  5. Storage: emergency storage set by the hydraulic design or the local water authority, sized from the inflow over the required period.

What a typical package includes

Included as standard

  • Two cutter or grinder pumps sized to the duty, 240V or 415V
  • Packaged polyethylene tank, or pumps and guide rails for an in situ pit
  • Dual pump controller with duty and standby alternation
  • Float switches and high level alarm with strobe and siren
  • Internal pipework, non return valves and isolation valves

Options we can add

  • Volt free fault and high level contacts for BMS connection
  • Class B or Class D trafficable lids, or infill lids for paved areas
  • Larger or deeper tanks for extra emergency storage
  • Stainless steel guide rail and lifting chain systems
  • Telemetry and remote alarm options

Not included: excavation, installation, backfill, the rising main itself, and electrical supply to the controller. These are carried out by your plumbing and electrical contractors.

Packaged stations we often start from

For smaller buildings a standard dual station is often the right base. The Kwikflo dual sewer pump station comes in 900, 1,200 and 2,000 litre tanks with cutter or 415V grinder pumps, and the BlueSelect 700 litre dual station suits compact sites. Larger developments get a custom package sized to the design. See all packaged pump stations and the full commercial and project supply range.

Common questions

Do commercial buildings need a dual pump station?

In most cases, yes. A dual duty and standby station keeps the building running if one pump fails, and many hydraulic designs and water authorities require it for multi dwelling and commercial sites.

Can the pump station controller connect to the BMS?

Yes. We can supply a dual pump controller with volt free fault and high level alarm contacts so the building management system is alerted to any problem.

Grinder or cutter pumps for a commercial building?

Cutter pumps suit shorter, lower discharge runs through standard pipe. Grinder pumps suit long or high rising mains on small diameter pipe, because they reduce solids to a slurry that stays moving.

What lid does a pump station in a driveway or car park need?

Class B suits driveways and light vehicles. Areas with trucks, forklifts or road traffic need Class D. Infill lids can be supplied where the station sits in a paved area.

Can you supply pumps for a pit that was built on site?

Yes. We supply pumps, guide rails, controllers, floats and fittings sized to the duty for in situ concrete pits.
